About Ecofuel Fund

Richard Cloutier

Managing Partner

Richard is the managing partner of the Ecofuel Fund. He has nearly 40 years of experience in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship and senior management.

Richard was the President and CEO of the Ecofuel Accelerator, an accelerator dedicated to clean technology start-ups. Previously, he was the President and CEO of the Québec Center for the Valorization of Biotechnology (CQVB), an organization dedicated to supporting innovative development projects in the bioeconomy. He was also the founder and CEO of Gelkem, a private biopharmaceutical company involved in controlled drug delivery systems.

Richard was also a lecturer in entrepreneurship, specializing in innovative start-ups and technology transfer at Laval University. He has served on several boards of directors, including that of the Québec Research Fund – Nature & Technology, as well as various private companies. Richard is frequently consulted for strategies related to the commercialization of innovative technologies.

Richard holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Sherbrooke University and an MBA from Laval University.

Johanne Sévigny

Managing Partner

Johanne is the managing partner of the Ecofuel Fund. She has over 30 years of experience in entrepreneurship, venture capital and senior management positions.

In addition to having been the Vice-President, Companies for the Ecofuel Accelerator, Johanne was a senior director at the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC). She was also the chief financial officer, mergers & acquisitions at Negotium, a technology solutions provider. Johanne was a portfolio manager at Entrepia Capital, Innovatech Montreal and Multiple Capital, three venture capital funds based in Montreal. Her background includes the position of President and CEO of an RFID company in the video game industry. At the start of her career, she held project manager positions at SNC Lavalin and Dessau-Soprin. Johanne sits on the board of directors of several innovative technology companies.

Johanne holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal and an MBA from HEC Montréal.

Serge Lavergne

Partner

Serge is Venture Partner at the Ecofuel Fund. He has thirty years of experience, including as an engineer in the fields of metallurgy, incineration and waste management, to then go on to manage major engineering-construction and transportation companies, then finally orientates his career in the financing and management of companies.

Prior to joining Ecofuel, Serge was Vice-President, Investments at the Innovexport Fund and was active in Anges Québec as an investor. Serge has served on the boards of several technology and manufacturing/construction companies. Previously, Serge had been General Manager of Tetratech Industries, Vice President, International at Genivar (now WSP), CEO of Petro-Nav Shipping Company and Vice President, Industry and Construction at Tecsult.

Serge holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Université de Sherbrooke, a master’s degree in Environmental Science from the Université de Sherbrooke and a Certified Corporate Administrator certification from the College of Corporate Directors of the Laval University.

Jonathan Martel-Gagnon

Principal

With five years of experience in project management, energy procurement and financial analysis, Jonathan Martel-Gagnon acts as the financial and risk analyst at the Ecofuel Fund. Debuting at EnGlobe corp. he managed and supervised several remediation projects in the Canadian arctic and United Kingdom. He also managed energy procurement for Resolute Forest Product’s Quebec mills while serving as analyst for innovations and strategic projects.

Throughout his studies, he was awarded several awards for excellence in design. He has also won several engineering competitions and case competitions in Canada and in the United States.

Jonathan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University and a Master’s degree in business and administration (MBA) from INSEAD, where he was a speaker for the INSEAD Sustainability Executive Roundtables.

Marko Gojgic

Associate

Marko is an associate for the Ecofuel Fund. He joined the team as an analyst in 2020. Previously, he was a self-employed financial security advisor for nearly 4 years. He also worked briefly in the biotechnology sector after completing his bachelor’s degree.

Marko holds a BS in Molecular Biology (Honors) from Concordia University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance from McGill University.

Caroline Brunet

Executive Assistant

Caroline is the executive assistant for the Ecofuel Fund. She has over 25 years of administrative and executive support experience in the fields of engineering, veterinary medicine, and education. She was also corporate partner for an IT company, self-employed in the field of health and esthetics and partner in a video-related company. She has participated in and orchestrated several corporate and fundraising events for different causes and foundations during her career.

Caroline holds a college diploma in office management.
